Traditional Grain Shed

A mushroom shed - not!

A mushroom shed - not!

As a boy I was fascinated by a shed I saw once that was built on top of stone mushrooms - the reason for this was to keep the rats out of what was a storage barn for food stuffs (grain, fruit etc)

I would like to build something like this for no other reason that it looks good, and to be some where to retreat to to listen to the rain on the roof.

I would also install a small wood burning stove in it just to take the chill off of it... cos I'm getting old!

Love to hear peoples comments on the practicalities of building such a beauty.

good idea but...

hey, the mushroom idea is really cool! but the shed design does not correspond to the mushroom pieces... a missed opportunity here..

I like this a lot because it has the potential to have a most important feature - charm!
If well-realised it could be a very English building - with inherent quirkiness and humour.
If the lines were hand drawn (however untrained your drawing skills), it would better represent the idiosyncratic feel of the building.
Of the more sophisticated ideas so far submitted that I've just seen, this is the place I'd most like to pop into for a nice cuppa around the stove!

spanish feel

I like this. There are traditional shedlike buildings along similar lines in the north of Spain, particular Asturias and the Basque country.

What a great idea!

What a great design to start off the competition!

One of the things that I love about sheds is the variety. All to often we get stuck in the rut of what a shed should look like (erm...a bit like that picture on the header top right)

I like the way that the foundations which are normally not part of the design are made a feature of this entry.

Well done for providing the first design Dave. Looking forward to seeing lots more from other visitors in the coming days.
