Royal Winchester Shed 8' x 10'

Our Royal Winchester Shed

Our Royal Winchester Shed

We have the Royal Winchester 8’ x 10’ vinyl storage shed. It was purchased from Lowe’s in 2004 for approximately $700. It was very easy to put together. We opted to design and install our own floor rather than purchase the optional one sold with the shed.

The instructions were written clearly and easy to follow. No parts were missing. It took about 6 hours with two people to construct the entire shed. Tools used were our own hammer and wrench.

We currently use the shed for storing miscellaneous items from garden tools to seasonal decorations. It has been wonderful. Spiders do get in through the cracks in the wood plank floor (again our design, not supplied by the manufacturer) but no other critters get in. We have put a lock on the door for security.

Occasionally the building will shift enough that the lock becomes difficult to get through the holes in the shed door handles, but soon it shifts back and everything works well.

The vinyl is very durable and attractive. Even after 5 years it still looks fresh and new. We do wash it down each year with bleach and detergent to keep the dirt and mildew off of it, but otherwise it is very low maintenance.

I would highly recommend this shed to anyone else. In fact we have just added a second unit down the hill from the first for more storage room! The only problem we had in doing this was that it was VERY difficult to find someone who would order it for us. It took us almost a year and delivery of two inferior sheds to finally get the Winchester we had wanted…nothing else would do.

Does anyone have a manual for the Winchester? I had to move my shed and since it has been 10 years since I first put it up I am at a loss.

Need roof parts
by: W. Harper

In a recent hail storm, I had 10 roof panels (two of which are the clear panels) get damaged ... so would be interested in purchasing replacement parts. I called the company that took over the shed line from Royal Industries and they also told me to flip the panels over, which I'll do if I can't get some replacement parts.

Very disappointed that the manufacturer quit making this shed because I've really enjoyed mine. I bought the 8' extension kit so my shed is 10'x15'.

Replacing Roof Panels
by: B Perry

I, too, like my 8X10 vinyl shed, and was distressed when hail knocked some holes in several of the roof panels. The company that made the sheds has gone out of business and a similar company no longer has any parts. What I like about the shed is that the roof and walls are thick hollow panels, which is fortunate. Since the holes don't go all the way through, a tech guy at Barrette Outdoor Living (they took over Royal when it folded) said that one solution is to disassemble the roof and flip the panels over. That puts the holes on the inside of the shed, allowing some functional although possibly unattractive patching with duct tape or vinyl tape as needed.

Shed is discontinued
by: Anonymous

I found a website when I was looking to buy The Royal Winchester shed. This is the answer they gave me:

The Winchester line unfortunately has been discontinued and is no longer available. The closest shed that comes to that model is the Homestyle Elite shed. It has the same type of design of doors, but the building does look a lot different in design aside from that.

If you want to take a look at that model, here is a link to where its located on our website. http://www.homestylesshed.com/our_sheds/view/elite_series

replacement doors for winchester shed
by: Judy O'Donnell

We have a Royal Winchester that we have had for over 10 years. The doors have become rotten by the hinges and when we had a recent hurricane in NC. one of the doors came off the hinges. We have noticed in recent years that the doors have moved some which makes it difficult to close the doors. I will call the number for replacement parts that was mentioned. Has anyone else called this number and received replacement parts for their shed?

Shed parts and warranty
by: Anonymous

Hi all,
Royal is not building sheds any longer (as of about 4 years ago), but you can still get some replacement parts for them by calling 877-362-3409. They also have the manuals available. I read somewhere else that the sheds have a 10-year warranty, so those of you with rotten doors should contact the company about warranty replacement doors. Hope this helps!

Bottom of doors rotted
by: Jeff

I bought and assembled the 10 x 10 shed. Yes, it was easy to assemble, but I wondered at the time (2002) why the doors were wooden while the shed itself is vinyl. Well, one door rotted within 4 years and the other just recently. I don't have it below grade. I guess it's just from the snow piled up against it in the winter. What a dissapointment. Just digging and grading the site for the foundation was very time consuming and the cost of the unit is prohibiting me from replacing it soon. I will research the possibility of buying some vinyl replacement doors.

Need web address for Royal Sheds
by: G. Mosso

I have 2 Royal Winchester sheds and I love them. They were on temporary wood platforms, but since have taken them down and will be putting them back up on concrete slabs. I cannot find my installation manuals and can't find their website to download new manuals. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

bad door design
by: Joe

I purchased this shed from Lowes 2 yaers ago, the shed went together easy with no problems, i put it on a concrete foundation so i would never have wood rot problems, but to my surprise after two years and after following all manufacturers priming and pinting instructions the WOOD cored doors are rotting away.
So great design on the shed but who's terrible idea was it to put wood core doors on it, if your going to make a maintenance free structure than lets go all the way

Excellent product
by: Janice Moudy

I bought this shed 4 years ago for a rental house I lived in. It was so easy to put together that I did it all by myself. Many steps but so easy to follow. I was unable to take it with me when I purchased a home so I sold it for $150.00 on Craigslist. I gave it away at that price. Now I am sad to say that I cannot find this exact shed anywhere anymore? Lowes sells ths bigger version for much more money than I originally paid for this shed. It did not ever leak or move on it's foundatin. What a great product, If anyone knows where I can buy please email me at
jmfreebird (at) aol.com.
Thank you.

Highly Recommend This Shed
by: Arnie Chicago, IL

I purchased my Royal Oak Winchester shed in the Spring of 1997. I too also opted for the wood floor I built. The shed out lasted the floor. I replace the floor this year in June 2009. My mistake was I used constuction grade wood in 1997. This time I used treated wood which should last 20 years. The shed itself is very easy to put together. It is also easy to take apart and put together again. The instructions from the shed are great and easy to follow. I original paid $587 for the shed and approximately $250 for the wood on both floors. The insructions for the floor plan in the manual are perfect. I am not a carpenter but they were also easy to follow. The key is to precut all your wood. I highly recommend this shed.
