A Garden Metal Shed = Practical and Useful

Garden metal sheds are multi-purpose storage buildings that serve many functions in a garden. Depending upon your needs, a metal garden shed will be a good fit for you and your garden.

Equipment Storage

Metal garden sheds are perfect for equipment storage. Garden equipment including lawn mowers, edgers and trimmers—as well as any other gasoline powered equipment can be most safely stored in a metal garden shed. A small metal shed for separate storage of fuel, oil and any combustible materials is ideal. These small metal sheds can be locked to keep children out of harm’s way. (Never store fertilizer and fuel in the same space. One small spark will cause a huge blast!)

Low Maintenance Metal Sheds

Metal garden sheds are perfect for those pressed for time because there are many attractive pre-fabricated metal sheds from which to choose. Additionally, treated or painted metal sheds require little maintenance, and are not susceptible to insect damage. Metal sheds can rust over time, though, so they are not completely hassle-free. In order for the shed to not become overheated during sunny, warm days, the shed should ideally have vents that can be opened or closed for airflow.

Customizing Metal Garden Sheds

The interior of metal garden sheds can be easily fitted out to your storage needs. Because many are light-weight, it is possible to purchase large metal garden sheds without interior pole supports giving a large clear internal space. Thus, you can construct or purchase a shed with more space than conventional sheds. Metal or wood shelves can be added for interior storage, though these shoulkd be floor standing as there are not the substantial timber studs that are there on wooden sheds. It is best to purchase a metal shed with windows or any other openings in place, as it is more difficult to cut a hole in a metal wall to install a door or window than it is to customize a wood shed with the same details.

Fun and Funky Metal Sheds

Many conventional metal shed plans are available. Another, more interesting type of metal garden shed is a garden metal shed made from recycled metal or recycled metal materials. These sheds have character, and a little rust here or there won't hurt them. For serious storage, a funky, rustic metal shed might not be the best option. However for gardeners who like to make a statement, a garden metal shed made from scrap metal adds a sculptural element to the garden.

Garden metal sheds are practical and useful for a variety of reasons. Increasing wood prices make metal sheds an affordable alternative for some gardeners. Additionally, some products and equipment are most safely stored in metal sheds, where they can be contained in case of fire.
